A Story from Facebook:
I want to share with all of you, my special gift of love and forgiveness I received from my youngest son, Zacharia Windfield Smith, 27 years ago; a gift that changed me and placed me on a time line of self love and forgiveness. I received a.22 rifle at age 10. From that day forward to age 31, I was a killer. I destroyed birds, snakes, turtles, rabbits, and just about anything else I could find to shoot. One day in our wooded place outside a small town in Arkansas, my 6 year old son and I were walking in the back woods some distance from our house and we stopped on a hill top to rest. Just then I saw a Blue Jay flying over and I raised the sawed off shotgun and fired. The bird fell dead right in front of us. My son looked at the bird and then looked up at me and asked,”were is that bird now?” I was already feeling bad that I done this thing in his presence and I answered that I didn’t know. He looked at the bird again for a moment and said, “well, I don’t like it. You can stay here with your gun, I’m going home”. I wonder if any of you can imagine how I felt in that moment. After that, I gave all my guns away and I haven’t wanted to take another life in any living form. That moment with my son changed me forever; it taught me to forgive myself first so that I can now love and be a part of the joy of all life.My wife of 37 years and I live in a paradise in the state of WA.We have a big table in our yard where we feed so many specices of birds, squrrles, chipmonks. And I have some Canadian Jays that eat from my hand. I just wanted you to know that my life has forever been changed to one of love, forgiveness, and joy. Thanks to my beloved cousin Jo Ann, whose understanding of forgiveness, compassion, and love, has made an enormous difference on the consciousness of this planet.
